Tomorrow night, Tricia and I are heading to Bonita Springs, Florida for a week’s vacation. I’m excited as I plan on doing a fair amount of birding while we are there. I am going to post if I find the time while were are down there, otherwise I will post next weekend – I’m hoping for some good birds!

Have a great time! If you get the chance, bird Bonita Beach, that’s where we stay (Salty Surf) the birding is great there!
Thanks for the tip John, I’ll let you know how we make out. Matt
Could be a snail that Wood Duck is eating. They are everywhere this time of year. Beautiful photo 🙂
Thanks Patty, I was thinking it looked like a snail too but then thought it could also be some form of vegetation. I think this calls for some research… Matt
I agree with Patty it looks like the Woodie is eating a snail.
Have a fun and safe trip to FL. and I will be anxious to see what you get shots of.
Best wishes, Ken
Thanks Ken, that’s two votes for snail. I’m hopeful for an exciting week with some good birds. Matt
Have a great time Matt
I’m looking forward to your new posts!!!
Wilma
Thanks Wilma!
The dangling piece in the wood duck’s snack reminds me of a scorpion’s tail. Obviously, that’s no help whatsoever in answering your question.
Get some good FL birds and have fun!
Okay so two votes for snail and one for scorpion’s tail, lol. Thanks for checking in Marianne, hope to run into you out there when I return. Matt
I vote for snail as well. Hope you have a wonderful and fruitful time in Florida!
Thanks Kathy, me too! Matt
Gotta agree with everyone else – looks like a snail to me. Maybe when the woodie picked it up, the snail grabbed onto a piece of the swamp slime it was sitting on, holding on for dear life. Or maybe the snail was wearing a scorpion suit to scare off predators?
Well, Tim, I think you figured it out – it’s a snail wearing a scorpion suit, lol. I’m glad that mystery has been solved. Thanks for the comment Tim. Matt
I came to tell you SNAIL!! but I see everyone is letting you know! Enjoy your stay here in Florida, It was a pleasure to have met you and Trisha! Looking forward to seeing your Florida work!
Who knew how pertinent snails would be for me this week? Great to meet you Cindy and thanks again for the incredible SNAIL KITE evening! Matt
