I had an enjoyable day at Mount Peter yesterday. It was ideal hawk watching weather in my opinion – cold and windy with heavy cloud cover. The sky was busy with plenty of songbird, geese, and local raptor action (Red-tailed hawks, Black and Turkey Vultures, and Bald Eagles). As for migrating raptors, I had a total of 39 for the day; 30 of which were Turkey Vultures. Four Bald Eagles, a Northern Harrier, a Sharpie, a couple of Red-tails, and a Peregrine Falcon made up the rest. I kept thinking that a Golden Eagle would be right around the corner, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Next Saturday is my last day at Mount Peter for the season; I hope I can finally pick up a Golden then. As always, I’ve included my Hawkcount.org report at the bottom of this post.

This morning I was having some car problems, so I had to cut my birding a little short. I had a couple of highlights, though – a Black Scoter at Glenmere Lake was a pleasant surprise, as was a Bonaparte’s Gull at Wickham Lake.

~This was pretty crazy. I watched as a Common Raven seemed to be mimicking the moves of a Red-tailed Hawk. It started with matching kiting in the heavy winds. Mt. Peter Hawkwatch 11/07/26.~
