I was on the road for work today and I was passing near State Line Hawk Watch right around lunch, so I stopped in. The raptors were certainly flying; I was there for less than a half hour and I saw: Turkey Vulture (8), Black Vulture (2), Peregrine Falcon (2), Red-tailed Hawk (4), Sharp-shinned Hawk (2), and a single Merlin. Not too shabby for some unexpected birding!
Right before sunset, I was in the Black Dirt Region and I finally got a half way decent shot of an American Pipit (which are plentiful in the area right now).
This is a test.
Where exactly is this place? I want to be above the birds too!
Off the Palisades Pkwy, maybe a field trip this Sunday? It’s less than an hour from Goshen.
Here goes, I’m trying again. I just love the shot of the female with the light on her back.
That is special enough to frame!!!

Looks like it is working now Wilma! Thanks for letting me know about that. Tricia really loved that photo too – I wasn’t even going to include it! Thanks so much Wilma, it’s been an age since I’ve seen you, hopefully sooner than later. Matt
I finally got my new lens last week. I’m hoping the weather will cooperate this weekend to get out and use it. I’ve really been missing shooting this week. Hopefully there will be some great chances soon.
Wilma
Good to hear Wilma. It’s supposed to be nice out this weekend – good luck with it! Matt
Great shots! I never did make it out to State Line again this fall, but I got lucky and got my own Golden Eagle on Monday in my yard… Great photos, I really enjoy them! It’s certainly memorable spending some time up there when the hawks are flying!
