QUICK POST: This afternoon, just after 3:00, I had 6 LAPLAND LONGSPURS on Missionland Road. I had just finished looking through hundreds of Horned Larks hoping for longspurs or buntings but without success. I have photos which contain all six birds, but unfortunately none came out very well, so here is a decent shot with four of the six. Nice birds to see, that’s for sure.

Thanks for posting Matt, I might try for them tomorrow!
Good luck with it John. When I saw them, these birds were on their own, not with any larks. Matt
I am glad that you posted the picture, because that was the only way I was going to see them today! So close, yet so far… I did go back this afternoon and try again.
Linda,
Painfully close! Sorry you missed out on them today, maybe you will have better luck in the next couple of days? Good luck with it! Matt
Matt, I led a field trip to Pine Island this past Sunday and saw Snow Buntings with Horned Larks on Skinner Lane along Wallkill River. How far from County Rd 1, did you see the Longspurs? Thanks.
Peter,
They were approximately 3/4 of the way down Missionland, somewhere before you hit Gurda. I keep missing the Snow Buntings – I’ll have to try Skinner. Good luck if you go for the longspurs. Matt
A “decent shot”! I’ll say! You are way too critical of yourself and you do GREAT work. I want the 2nd bird from the right.
Best, Ken
Ha ha, that’s what Tricia says too! Thanks for the kind words and good to hear from you Ken. Matt
