Good Shorebirding in the Black Dirt, 10/06/22

The first week back at work after vacation is always a doozy, but this one has been especially rough. This seemed to make it that much sweeter when I finally got out to do some birding tonight and found a nice collection of shorebirds in the black dirt. The highlight was (6) WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, which are always a favorite. Also in the same field was over 100 Killdeer, (3) Least Sandpipers, and a single Pectoral Sandpiper. It was a nice break from the grind.

  1. Matt,
There must have been a good movement of White-rumped Sandpipers, I had one a couple of days ago and three today, all at Morningside Park. With the winds favorable the next few days it should be interesting to see what comes in. Glad you had a good evening! John

    1. I was thinking the same thing John. I was happy to cash in on the one night I got out this week. Fingers crossed for good birds in the upcoming days – it’s almost a guarantee there will be something good locally on the weekend since I’ll be out of town. Matt
