While looking for the caracara on Saturday,\u00a0I came across many raptors and I was lucky enough to get a decent photo of a couple\u00a0<strong>American Kestrels.\u00a0<\/strong>Later that\u00a0evening, Tricia and I went to Piermont, NY to go out for her birthday dinner. We did not have tons of time, but we made a quick stop at Piermont Pier where\u00a0we got very appropriately\u00a0lucky with the very blue-billed <strong>Ruddy Duck<\/strong> at the top of this post (appropriate since Ruddies are Tricia&#8217;s favorite, the blue bill was the icing on the cake!).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4265\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4265\" style=\"width: 867px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/orangebirding.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MG_9205.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4265\" src=\"https:\/\/orangebirding.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MG_9205.jpg\" alt=\"~\" width=\"867\" height=\"1300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/orangebirding.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MG_9205.jpg 867w, https:\/\/orangebirding.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MG_9205-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/orangebirding.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MG_9205-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4265\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">~American Kestrel on River Road in Montgomery, NY 4\/11\/15.~<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Sunday morning, I joined Karen Miller and Sharon Dewey Scavatto (who drove in\u00a0that morning\u00a0from Massachusetts) and we birded the Bashakill Wildlife Management Area. It started out on the chilly\u00a0side with enough of a cold breeze to make my hands uncomfortable as we birded Haven Road first thing. Highlights at Haven Road included: 1 <strong>Common Goldeneye<\/strong>, 2<strong> Northern Shoveler<\/strong> (first ones at the Bash this year), and 4 <strong>Blue-winged Teal <\/strong>(my first of the year).\u00a0From there, we headed over to the Nature Trail, hoping for the Red-necked Grebe and the Common Loon that had been seen there. We struck out with the RNGR, but we did get brief but good looks at the <strong>Common Loon<\/strong>. We also heard a<strong> Barred Owl f<\/strong>rom across the Bash, and I got my first <strong>Golden Crowned Kinglets<\/strong> of the year. Our next stop was the Deli Fields where I got my FOY<strong> Field Sparrows.<\/strong>\u00a0Our final stop was at the Main Boat Launch to go for the <strong>Horned Grebes<\/strong> that have been there. We got very good scope views in perfect light of 4 HOGRs. We walked part of the Birch Trail and I got my FOY <strong>Swamp Sparrows<\/strong>.
