Swamp Sparrows in the Rain 6/12/14

Swamp Sparrow singing in the rain, Appalachian Trail Pochuck Section, 6/12/14.

After work today I walked the Appalachian Trail Pochuck Section for the first time this year. I had forgotten how good the trail was for Swamp Sparrows, so in spite of the poor light and the rain I got some decent shots. I was hoping that the Marsh Wrens would have nested near the boardwalk like they did last year, but no such luck. In addition to the the SWSPs and MAWRs, all the birds I saw were expected species, with a highlight being a couple of Green Herons.

I love the long legs on these Swamp Sparrows. AT Pochuck Section, 6/12/14.

SWSPs are a beautiful sparrow, I love the colors on the back of this bird.

    1. Thanks Miller – I did too! That’s a great spot for Swamp Sparrows, I sort of forgot that!

  1. I agree with karen? I also think that it’s time for the “Novice” part to be removed fro your into. I’m a Novice you could give tours.

    1. That’s very kind of you LL, but you have to see me out there sometimes…so lost! Someday though….

  2. Tried for those marsh wrens, I could hear them but think it would have been easier to photograph a gnat!

    1. Last year it was easier because the nest was so close to the trail. I got lucky over the weekend with a Marsh Wren posing doing the splits! I’ll post it tomorrow. Were the V Rails still a round?

  3. You saw Karen’s FB pics? Linda and I saw them briefly Monday early morning.

    1. I saw everyone’s pics! I will try for them tomorrow, I hope I have some luck!
